Some suggestions please...

My parents are trying to bribe me to get my 20G out of the house and into the garage. Here's what they're bribing me with..

Chiller(s)....larger tank....more corals...on their dime...

I guess I should be happy about it, but the thought of my tank in the garage just isn't too appealing.

I have roughly a 48x24 area....so....

2 separate systems for softies and SPS corals? Or 1 large mixed tank? I have 3 halide sets, 2 new that haven't been used.

I've been toying with the idea of 2 20G tanks, but then a 60G tank wouldn't be too bad. I really would like to shy away from systems needing more than 175W of lighting since those are the ones I currently have.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

why not get a tank custom made, say 48l x 24w x 16h and you can still use the 175 since the tank is only 16" high. This will give you alot of room to work with and since the tank, chiller and corals are being paid for then I would say go for it. The save up and get other lightig later on.

I say go for it too...since they're paying for it. Chillers aren't chillers aren't cheap...get 1 large mixed tank...

LOL Kelly, nice to finally see you. That's sorta why I was thinking of the separated systems. I think a 75G w/ corner overflow is ideal for me looking over the numbers. 48x18x20". Then I can have a fuge almost equally large for the frags..:D

LOL! I am a frugal person which is why my parents dare bribe me to this extent. It is very tempting though, my work is in the garage,, my pet monitor is in the garage, I might as well kick out my sister's car, make it a guest house and live in it! yeah!

Having a tank in a garage is not all that bad. I had my tank in my garage for a good 2 years and had great success. I was able to spill water all over the place. It was also great to sit in front of my tank without being bothered. The one thing that i didnt like was the heat and cold. One thing you must consder is that the garage will get extremely hot if not ventalated and will get extremely cold so you will need 2-3 300 watt heaters.

Your lucky atleast your parents didnt demand the tank be moved, keep in mind its there house and its a great thing they have respect to give you an option! I all honesty i would do it just to please my parents, not to mention all the free goodies they will have to buy me. I would tell them for a larger tank i need more rock, better lights, better skimmer and so on! lol. Good luck.
