My pajama cardinal looks like his eye is about to pop out of his head. Does anyone know what's going on?

So it will go away on its own or do I need to treat it?
I read about erythrmycin but it says to do a 25% water change prior to (every?) treatment and that goes on for 10 days:hmm2: It is in a 180 so that is not trivial.
How do you guys catch a fish to move it to QT?

it's called 'pop eye'... I have never treated the fish for it, and they have always gotten better.

Thanks everybody. I gently tried to get it out of the big tank tonight, but it is way too wily. I won't try again because I read in sushigirl's link that it might have been trauma-related and the last thing it needs is more possible trauma. It may have gotten banged around some in the tank move - I can't remember if his eye was slightly enlarged before or right after the move.
Because it is one eye only, is it reasonable to assume it is not a contagious thing? I just want to keep everybody healthy.

Its popeye... If its only one side its most likely due to an abrasion or cut and is infected. if its both eyes its more likely to bacterial and systemic (within the fish itself) Two things can happen...
1) heals on its own and is perfectly fine like nothing ever happened
2) it pops/deflates and the fish loses the ability to see/use the eye
There isn't any real treatment of it persay but you can use metronidazole or nitrofurontin from SeaChem and mix it into the food along with focus and feed the fish in the tank so you don't have to catch the fish. This will prevent it from getting other infections because its stressed out right now with the popeye.
I had this happen to my smallest hellfrich. My black cap basslet was picking on him from day one in the tank and he scratched his eye in an attempt to evade him and got the "POPEYE" poor little fella... Everyday he would have parts of fins missing and everything stupid black capped picking on him. But thehellfirch everyday would be the first one out and swimming all over the place! Unfortunately his eye didn't heal completely and he ended up losing it. But hes still alive and kicking and in the new tank living life while the black capped decided to go carpet surfing and is no more.
