something clipped off protopalythoas tentacles

I have several clumps of protopalythoas bright green, brown and blue grey. I have had them all for at least a year or more. Plus 10 differnt types and colors of zoanthus. In the last week the bright green protopalythoa has what looks like clipped off tentacles. Some are there, but some arent and the polyps are not flared open, just dimpled in cups. I have a small sharp nosed puffer from Florida-main suspect, and some Lysmata werdamenti shrimp-peppermint shrimp-possible, and a coral banded shrimp, Stenopus hispidus. Some other fish -comb tooth blennies-suspect, and an emerald crab and hundreds of small blue leg hermits, but those are all of the suspects. Anyone think they could help me figure out who's biting off tentacles? Thanks. Steve.

I'm voting for the puffer...they will taste, try, bite darn near anything to see if it's edible...or even just fun to bite

The puffer is my first suspect. He is small, he was 1 1/2" long when we caught him 7 weeks ago, and he is 2" now and fatter. He constantly cruises and stops and nips at rock, but I have never seen him eat any zoas, mushrooms, gorgonians or corals. We feed all the fish well. I may put him in a fish only tank. Any of the others might be suspect?
