I accidentally posted my comment about the crab in the RDSB forum opps.....lol

But i got a great response!

Thanks Fred_J
"Skepperz- That is a gorilla crab. The meanest thing there is except perhaps a mantis. I had one in my 75g that I just caught this week. He went too far, started eating my coral and my firefish was missing. Tke regular tall drinking glass place large piece of grocery store shrimp in it(can use silver sides but shrimp has worked a lot better for me) leab glass up on LR at a 45 degree angle leave overnight you will have at least one crab by morning. side of glass is too slippert for them to climb out. It could take two nights. I've caught 3 gorillas ad unnowquantity of red mithrex this way.

Fred"

I too have a Pistol shrimp that I have never seen. INterested to see how you catch whatever yours is. Mine is so loud I hear it several rooms away.

SuperNerd!! thanks!! that is the exact guy i have in my tank!! little bast**rd......i recon he is the one that has eaten all my sails and my poor poor Bicolor Blenny!

I wonder if the LFS will take him back.....lol:)

Yeah the link wasn't working for me either, do you think he is getting a bit over protective because I have such a small tank? Cause from what I have read they are "supposed to be reef-safe" but I really don't know about that......not from my experience anyway! :)

lol
I don't have any personal experience with these "plush puppies" so I couldn't tell you for sure. I can only tell you what I've read...and ,in terms of being "reef safe", the opinions given by the experts and the hobbyists seem to contradict one another.

I think the crab would be exhibiting whatever behavior it is showing in a larger tank as well...but the aggression would be less noticeable because you wouldn't see it as often and the fish/inverts would have more space to avoid the crab.

In general, most crabs are opportunistic feeders and will catch what they can. But if you feed the crab you MAY notice that its potential for attacking something you like will decrease.

Hmm.... I might try that approach and give him a feeding routine. Hopefully then he will be less willing to attack my other tank inhabitance. But we will see......I will keep you posted on any progress I might have.

Thanks for all you help SuperNerd\others, you all have been great, giving me the right direction you have helped me solve this massacre.....well not quite just yet but we will see.....:)

I think I got my crab (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=752679&perpage=25&pagenumber=1 )
^--the link SuperNerd gave) on a feeding routine, he seems to come out during feeding time now and grab a nice chunk of food for himself ignoring the snails and hermits in the meantime.

Too early to say right now , but I think they can be 'somewhat domesticated' and conditioned to eat the easy meals. He at least comes out when he 'smells' the food of feeding time.
