Something is wrong with my finger leather

Help, there is a black slime starting to eat away at my huge finger leather.

It started a few weeks ago and I cut the infected part off and it seemed to be doing fine but it's coming back in two places. I've had this coral for probably 7 or 8 years now and I'd really hate to lose it. I'll try to get some pics but my glass is really scratched up and I'm a horrible photographer.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks
Adam

OK, so I did a Lugol's Dip and the whole coral is shriveled and hard as a rock. It's also a really dark brown, looking way worse than it did to begin with. I don't think it's going to make it.

hate to break it to you that happens normally with leathers. thats how they multiply. they start to tear pieces from themselves and drop them off. mine does it once or twice a month. all you just did was **** off a healthy coral. they also will slim over and look like there dying DO NOT DIP IT THEN ETHER! thats normal too. its when they are molting/growing. do you have any other corals in the tank with them or is this your first coral? reason asking some other corals do the same thing to multiply.

I've had the coral for 7 or 8 years and it's split a few times as well as being fragged but it never had black slime eating away at it.
