Sadly that is the same thing mine did. I tried to cut the bad spots out. I then tried to frag it into small frags. Eventually I lost it. everytime I cut it the fragged part came up with the same thing. I never really figured out what it was. Keep an eye on it. I hope yours pulls through for you.
It does look like a chemical burn. I have had the leather for about 4 months. I know there is a small chemical burn on it from chemi-clean it was only one little spot and the spot didnt turn out to look like this. I have not used anything else so I'm thinking this couldn't be a chemical burn. I know for sure it wasnt the chemi-clean.
The last coral banded shrimp I had would walk around the whole tank stabbing at every coral with his big claws. I lost alot of really nice and big hairy mushrooms, also had the few left spread like crazy and double the number i originally had but he was a punk nonetheless.
did you leather fall off a rock...i had one that kept throwing himslef off a rock and got one of those from scraping himslef on the way down...it healed in about a week though
those coral banded shrimp always get themselves into some sort of trouble. Although, you leather should be fine because they are very hardy just keep an eye out.
I'm a night owl and am always looking at my tank, sometimes at even 3 am and a lot during the day so I think I would have seen the shrimp picking at the coral by now.
