Something wrong with my torch

CoRPS

Big Time Reefer
Alright I got the torch a while ago, it got a lot fatter since I've gotten it. however within the last week or so it's been retracting a lot more often. Nothing has changed except I may dose iodine a bit less often. Not only has it been retracting more often, but off of the skeleton there seems to be something that looks like a featherduster.

Sorry it's not the best picture, but where I put the arrow is a small opening where what looks to be a feather comes out, sweeps the water and goes right back in. I haven't ever seen it on there before. What is it?

Barnacle. No worries.

My torch used to shrink up when it was splitting. Maybe that's whats going on.

oh no way, that's what a barnacle looks like when it's alive? Why does it look like it's actually a part of the torch rather than it being attached onto the torch?

I had one come in on a hammer coral, and I couldn't figure out what it was either. It was right in the MIDDLE of the flesh, it almost looked like another mouth, only it had "feeder tenticles on it!" lol.

They don't usually survive for very long in our systems....

yes I've had barnicles on a few things... they dont seem to last. A maricultured monti I got had some. They were incredibly small and I only saw them during the iodine dip, since when I removed the coral they'd close up like little eyes blinking at me.

I wish vermitid snails would take a hint from barnicles and not do so well in my tank :)
