Somethings going on with my tang...

I know what ICK is im not DUMB! I wanted to get suggestions on how people treat it, OR IF SALT could possibly stick to fish??? Once again sorry for the STUPID question!

I have only killed one fish (clown fish) which was due to a sickness that only clowns get.

Do you really think I just go Ohhh Thats pretty Iam gonna by 2!!! Come on I dont have the money to afford that!! I research everything I am going to buy for days before I even think about purchasing. I don’t have any experience with ICK and don’t have the extra tanks/money to deal with it so I wanted peoples opinions. Getting answers from people who have dealt with this before, and you acutally know IS way better than an article you find online that your grandma could of wrote for all you know! At least in my opinion.

I do go to the meetings when I can make it and do learn. When its time for the raffles I find out what would work in my tank and try to win it. I dont just go Ohhh thats worth a lot of money Iam gonna try to win it even though my lights wont handle it.

Just so you know too my tang is doing fantastic and he lost the ICK thanks to everyones help minus your s****y input that had nothing to do with the post! :thumbdown

P.S. - I think I might go out and buy a crosshatch trigger and stick him in my 14 gal cube because he’s CUTE!

Heads up. If your tang looks great, be ready for it to not look so great in the next week or so. Ich comes and goes in cycles. The only way to kill it off is to chemically treat it, or, remove its host for more than one life cycle. If you treat your tang in a hospital tank, but there are other fish in the main tank, there is an extremely strong chance that the ich will live in the main tank.

When the tang returns, the ich will become more apparent as Tangs are more susceptible. What is the solution? If you have ich in your main tank, you may need to remove all hosts for a little more than 1 life cycle of ich. I would not treat all of my fish, only the ones that appear sick. It could require a bare-bottom, no-rock tank for the healthy fish and a similar one to treat unhealthy fish.

For treatments, I like the 1.009 salinity treatment for the Tang, but there are other options.

Thanks Hampton i will keep my eye out on the tank and post any more issues i might have if/when they occur.

Thanks for everyone’s...(almost everyone’s) Helpful tips! I greatly appreciate it!

Question? PirateFish52 said a "quick hyposalinity dip". I thought that you needed to bring done the salinity over time and that the ich does not get killed off from just a dip. I'm guessing that the hyposalinity dip may stress out a tang and make the problem worse. I just asking because I don't know. Then again, we do fresh water dips with little down side. Will the ich be affected with just a dip? By the way, what ever fish you have that will live forever, I want one to. LOL
Thanks for the help.

quick hyposalinity dip

Not to get into it with freed, but what I have done, and what has worked for me in the past, was to do a quick RO dip.

Had some Ich on a clown of mine about 3 years ago.

I forget where I heard it, but I was told that you can do a quick 4-5 minute RO dip. I tried it, and it worked.

Like the other poster stated, the ich does come back a few weeks later, and upon doing the dip again, at that point, it was gone forever.

My clown still living to this day.

You can also use the method that Freed posted, and take a few days doing the process. Since I didn't have time then, or now, to dedicate a day for a lengthy process like the one Freed is suggesting, I went with the 5 minute method, and it worked.

Will it work for anyone else? Probably.

Would I do it again? Yes, because I still don't have the time.

Is it a method you would try? That's up to you.
