Son called, dad I need help

Is that maple? How're you planning on finishing it?

No, it's solid cherry. Not sure what my son will decide on the finish yet, but believe it will be natural, just clear coat. I myself love the colors of natural woods even poplar with it's white, green, purple and even black. Can't see hiding these colors with stain.

No - Natural cherry is beautiful. We have a bedroom set that is cherry and maple - love the contrast. All that cherry must've cost a pretty penny, though!

Here from my supllier cherry is $3.35 a board foot finished 3 sides. Can get it $0.20 cheaper ruff cut but thats to much work. Oh well it's the kids money.

My home made stand for my 120 gallon does not have any center suport. I also made one for a 210 years ago with out a center suport. The key is using at least a 2X6 to run the lenght between the two legs. Also put the legs directly under your frame so all weight rests in a direct downawd force of all wood. The facia lumber can help prevent movement between the legs and the frame as well,

Wow last time I priced cherry it was $8.00 per board foot but rough cut was only $6.00 a board foot. Probably geography makes a big dfference in pricing as I have been oak and popular way below what some others get it for.

I also noted Walnut prices are very seasonal.

Cherry $3.35
Oak $2.00
Poplar $1.45

These are 100 board foot prices and I get a small discount if I pay in cash. Covers my gas to go pick it up. Haven't bought Walnut or Maple in a while not sure what they are running.

wow your other work is great. Crucifix is beautiful. how did you manage the figure of Jesus. Was it bought secondary or carved by you? Is that chapel in your home?

Doors are done. Now to take it all apart for final sanding and finish.

It will be awhile for a finished pic.

You did a great job.
Your son should be very thankful!

As the builder, what do you find yourself looking at more... the tank or the stand and canopy?

Will agree it does look fantastic. Is that clear poly on the cherry wood ? If it is the color came out better than I would expect. Most of my projects are red oak as it the cheapest of the woods I like with a cherry or fruitwood stain on them. I did work with mohogany years ago but for my taste today it is too dark.

You would not care to give us the tinal cost materials?

Fanstastic looking stand I must say. A real premium piece of furniture.

I guess I look at the tank since I've built so many cabinets it's nothing new.

Stand is finished in clear poly, no stain. I like to see the different colors in the wood rather than say all red.

As far as cost? Not sure. I had 101 board ft. of cherry at $338. but this also built a bathroom vanity and linen cabinet. 6 pair of hinges at around $8 a pair. The cherry crown was $5. a board, needed 3, made the rest of the trim. The stainless piano hinge was free.
