Soulpatch's build thread (ongoing)

Yeah I thought about it but it is an hour+ of work for no gain really since I will run the HOB.

My only concern is the water levels with the HOB leaving the back wall up. I assume that the ATO on the main sump should manage water levels even in that tank but I will have to run it for a bit to ensure it all works fine. If not then I will have to remove the back chambers.

Well I think I have someone coming to look at the tank this weekend. Awaiting word from Steve at SC on the cost for a particular setup for me so I know if I move forward with the sale or not. Or I could go just the single tank and not worry about a frag tank for a while but I really liked the idea of having one.

So we shall see. $350 or so for the tank, stand, rock, sand, some corals, heater, media basket, and such is still a steal.

Yep, but that's how used tanks go. Cheaply.

I think if I go with a 6'+ tank for my next tank, I'll want to have a frag tank in the stand, and if tall enough, maybe a frag and QT tank on top of each other (QT on the bottom).

In the meantime, where's the daily 150g update? It's been a week since there have been any updates! Surely some thing somewhere has grown or died or changed!

Yeah I dont mind it going cheaply so long as I offset enough for the other tank.

I dont like the idea of the frag tank in the stand as I want to look at them not hide my frags away. I dont mind QT being hidden so I dont think about the fish as much and want them in the tank earlier but the frags I want to see.

The 150 hasnt had much going on. This past weekend was filled with superbowl parties and a friends 40th so we were swamped. I had planned to work on the tank Sunday before the superbowl but I drank way too much Saturday night for that to happen.

This weekend though is the big powering up portion of the 150. I am moving the apex, wiring everything together, and my electrician is coming for the install of the dedicated line.

Decided to keep the biocube for a bit. In all honesty I dont want to throw in an additional 300+ for a tank right now when I dont need to. That is some serious coral/fish money OR since spring is on the horizon that is tire money for a weekend at the track with the bike.

I think I will sit content with things for now as best as I can. The wife and I have a large kitchen remodel upcoming and I would like to buy a jetski this summer for the beach house. Need to flip a motorcycle to be able to do that one though...

So the cube is undergoing some changes.

The acans, brain, and ricordea are all out of the tank. The clown has been moved as well. I have gotten rid of some rock by taking pieces with GSP and zoas to my LFS. I need to take some palys as well but I have one small piece of ric to frag off first on that rock work. I should order in some more MarinePure to handle the loss of the rock in terms of filtration.

Plans for the tank as it sits now. Continue to remove items and CUC for transfer. All rock will be removed and placed into 10 gal tank so that I can remove all of the sand from the cube, break it down, and clean it with vinegar. Allow pumps to run in vinegar solution for a couple days then drain and let dry for a week or two. I will restart it as bare bottom tank with my frag rack, marine pure, a couple pieces of the rock and a few things of livestock after it is cycled.

Tank should house six line wrasse, frags, and snails. Being barebottom will make clean up much easier

So everything living that I wish to keep has been removed from the cube. The rocks will be pulled next and I will most likely soak them and then let them dry or some time. I might even just throw them out so as to not have any worries about anything coming back from them. Just grab some loose rock and marine pure block for when I want to restart the cube as a QT tank.

Nonetheless everything is out of it that I saw and am giving any snail till the weekend to pop out and be seen. On Saturday the power button will be flipped to nix the tank and she will be drained.

As for the equipment. The Kessil is going to be moved to the large tank I believe. Should I restart the cube I will buy a kessil 160 for it or a ai light. The large tank has a dead spot where I dont get shimmer from the other 2 Kessils so I need the third for it.

The heater will go to my mixing station, the RW4 will be seriously cleaned and go in the refugium to keep movement, and the gyre 130 will probably find its way into the big tank for additional movement.

Such is life for the tank and for us reefers as we move on and some tanks get shut down. It's been a fun ride in the nano world and I will stick around this forum for tips and tricks to help out but at this point I am unsure if my cube rises again...

Bringing this thread full circle the BC was sold to another reefer Monday. I have decided to not use it as a frag tank as when I get to that point I think I will prefer a shallow cube with racks for the frag plugs.

New owner picked it up and has a full 120 SPS tank but this was for his daughter who was in the car. It was going to be her Nemo tank in her room. Glad to see we have another generation coming up and that it will give another kid the joy it gave mine.

That said if someone wants the intank media basket let me know. Shipping and a few bucks and she is yours.
