have (2) 40lb bags & then a partial bag. bought them to use in my RDSB, but i've decided to not set one up for the time being, so they are for sale....had interst in 1 of the bags, but haven't heard from them

$20 per 40lb bag or $35 for all of it

How is this still available? When I was in Nashville, everyone was rabid for Southdown...

this is some that a local guy selling some stored stuff sold me. he said he got it quite awhile back from somebody in east tn

....i might just "store" it myself LOL

OK, I'll bite. As a newbie, what is the fuss/joke?

it is pure caribbean crushed limestone w/ none of the bad stuff like you would get in most "play sand" from HD or lowes

....think caribsea LIVE sand w/out the life LOL

supposedly the best non-live substrate that was avail till they quit making it

You mean repackaged it and starting selling it at 400% markup. If I had a need for it anytime soon, I'd be all over it.

You mean I should not just go to my local park and take a bucket of that stuff? I'd think there would be some great biodiversity. ;)

This is sort of true. The biggest thing was that it was aragonite for $4 per 50lbs instead of paying LFS prices for CaribSea, which is why I think its so ridiculous people have old stockpiles of it that they jack the price up on... that was the biggest feature of it! :)

And the real funny thing is that it is still available but you have to find out where without saying you are using it for marine I was looking at getting a semi truck load of it.

I'm still a fan of fine sand, but no longer have any as fine as southdown. I went through more than my share of it over the years. pioneerlog from years back had a small stockpile that I kept pillaging from:).
