Spawning sun coral

When I was feeding my orange sun coral earlier today, it suddenly started spitting out lots of little orange balls. The two largest polyps spit out several slime-covered bunches that had 5-10 balls each, and the smaller polyps spit out little balls every time I tried to feed them. :eek2: The polyps have been closed for several days, so I was surprised. I guess it likes my tank.

How common is it for sun corals to do this? Can I expect to see baby sun corals in my tank soon? :)

Tagging along because I am very interested in getting some "Sun Corals" myself. Do you feed them in the daytime or night time? And how do you feed them?

I feed whole pieces of dried shrimp to all of the larger polyps every time they're open (usually a few times per week). I usually feed them at night. Once or twice per week, I'll put the whole coral in a cup with a bunch of crumbled fish flakes and shrimp so that the small polyps can eat. If you're thinking of getting a sun coral, definitely go for it. They're very easy to care for and they add a nice splash of color to your tank.

I don't see any baby sun corals yet, but I'm still hoping that some of the "coral seeds" will make new corals in my tank. :)

This is common in tanks, many sun corals spawn. It is the time of the year, normally the changing of the seasons, or at least very 6 months or so. Mine(when I had) spawned several time and it take some time for the small new ones to pop out. Gook luck with the new batch of upcoming suncorals.

Join the club, mine spawned too! Once settled, little yellow beads flowing all over the tank which leads to babies all over:headwalls::headwalls: your rock, if that's what you like, suncoral nation! Or maybe suncoral farm!:spin1:
