Speck on tang...I'm freaking

So last night I was feeding the tank and realized that my yellow tang had a white speck on his nose. I thought I was seeing things so I shook my head and looked again and it was still there. I then told myself it has to be an air bubble or a grain of sand, no way it could be ich. So I went to sleep saying it will be gone in the morning. Sure enough I went downstairs to look this morning and the damn thing is still there.

I havent added any fish in a LONG time, Ive had the same bunch for what seems like forever. The yellow tang went through hypo and was in QT for a extremely long time, but ich was gone. Everything else in the tank went through TT and 5 weeks of QT before going in the new tank (I have never seen Ich or any signs ever in my tank). I did have flukes SOMEHOW, but finally got rid of them (that took FOREVER).

Fast forward a little bit and I am in a new house and everything is in a new tank...180g now. The only thing I added to the tank since the upgrade was a hammer coral. This was dipped in h2o2, coral rx and it was not introduced for about a week (I know that doesnt effect ich). Could this coral really have brought ich into my tank or could that speck be something else? No one is flashing, everyone is eating normally, the tank seems to be fine other then this speck on the YT.

Someone please tell me this could be something else other than ich before i :uzi: my tank please :uhoh3:
 
I'm at work now, but I'll post a picture when I get home. I'm not sure my iPhone will get a good shot but I could try when he's eating off the algae clip.
 
It could be something minor like lymphocystis.

But it is possible that the coral had ich on it. The chance is minimal but there's still a chance. If it is ich you will know. It will start spreading. I wouldn't freak out just yet though. It could be nothing.
 
I was hoping lymphocystis at first, but from my understanding those look more like pimples on the skin. Meaning the skin raises and comes to what looks like a head. This spot looks like someone dropped a grain of salt on his nose, its very small, round, and looks like its just resting there.
 
From my experience it can start off small like that and will raise up and get bigger like a pimple. It all depends on the fish's immune system on how big it gets or how fast it goes away. But if it is lymphocystis, it will go away on it's own.
 
So I came home and my powder blue tang is getting cleaned by the cleaner shrimp and a fathead has a white spot on its fin...what do I do now? I just tried feeding and one of the fathers wasn't really interested but still ate. I'd like to act fast. I was researching at work today and found out the fallow period just just work all the time. I don't have a big enough tan to put all these fish in so I'm in a panic...would if I take out the 5 or 6 snails I have could I dose CP?

I have (2) 50g brute cans I could use...could I use them for TTM with all my fish? I have 2 tangs, 2 fatheads, (3) layrtails, a bartlet, six line, Royal gramma and (2) clowns

What would I do to the DT though?

Read the stickies. The DT must stay fishless for 10-12 weeks.
 
So looking around the house I have (2) 50g brute cans, a 20g brute can, 10g tank, and (2) 5g tanks.

After panicking for a bit I thought I would do the TT with everyone in the 50g cans. After that's done I would buy a 40 long and put the (2) tangs in. Everyone else can be split up into the 20, and (2) 50g cans where they'll stay until the 10-12 weeks is up.

Does this sound like something that could work? Are the fish going to be able to co exist in a confined space like that? Also how do I make sure that the parasite is absolutely gone in the DT?
 
IMO, it would probably be less stressful on the fish and YOU by just removing all inverts and coral and treating the tank with CP. You have a better chance of eradicating this in your main DT rather than leaving it fallow. Just my 2 cents.
 
I have a few problems with CP because I was initially going to dose it, but reading more on it, it seems like a real problem and here's why:

1. I have 180g w/ a 40g sump, I think I have 180g total water volume. that would be 7,500mg of CP powder

2. CP is effected by light, especially UV. My tank is in a well lit area and it would be difficult to keep it dark.

3. A lot of my coral have encrusted onto the rocks, it would be extremely hard to remove everything. I have had some of these pieces for a very long time on the same rocks now.

4. CP is a serious algicide and would kill off all coraline/any kind of algae in the tank.

5. Removal of CP is kind of difficult and because you cant test for it, it's hard to know if it is all gone. You cant put any coral in the tank for months after treatment because of this.

I know you are very anti-fallow treatment, I have read your posts in a few places now, but I just don't know if your experience is the norm. Putting CP in the tank and just letting it do its thing sounds great, but I feel like its going to destroy the rock and everything else.

Ok no worries, it just sounded from one of your posts that all it would take would be to remove a few snails and you could go ahead and dose CP but if that's not the case then you will need to find an alternative.

You are correct, i am anti-fallow now for the most part because of my experience with it. Some people may believe that i did not take all the necessary precautions during my QT period and that's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion but I know what I did and unfortunately these are my results which sucks for me. I hope though that you find a good solution to this and protect the health of your fish. My opinion if you cannot dose the main DT would be to get them in a suitable QT and treat accordingly and break down the tank and hit the reset button. Only way to be sure IMO. Good luck and keep us posted.

After researching CP more I realized that I would need to take all the coral/nems out of the tank too, and I dont know if thats a great idea.

CP isnt totally out of the question, I just have some real concerns for the coraline, and the rest of the algae in the tank. Also I have read that you need to wait MONTHS to put any coral back in the tank. Also getting CP in powder form seems to be a real issue. I'm not willing to take a chance on a bad batch. If I do this I want to make sure that it is going to work and I just dont know where to get fresh CP from. I have a lot of concerns and questions and I just dont know if I have the time to get them all answered right now. I too have read a bunch of instances that the fallow period didnt seem to work, but snorvich is a huge promoter of it. I honestly just dont know what to do right now. I wish he would chime in right now.
 
Here's a crazy idea, don't know if it's workable for you...

Remove all the coral (including the rock it's encrusted on) to the large brute, set that up to run for a while. Add some extra rock to that brute to get good and populated with bacteria. Then, treat the tank as necessary for ich. When you're confident you've eradicated it, move the fish to a temp holding tank, remove the remaining rock etc from the DT, rebuild it with the newly cycled rock and old stuff you've been keeping in the large brute, then reintroduce fish.
