spin cycle + aquarium ?

We rent the top half of a house, and the washer and dryer happen to be in a closet in the room that I would really like to put my new aquarium setup.

So I have the aquarium sitting there on the cabinet (without any water in it yet), against the opposite wall from where the washer/dryer are, and when the washer is on spin cycle, it seems to shake enough that I can feel it pulsing rapidly in the glass of the aquarium. I can't actually see the aquarium shaking, but I wonder if this would end up putting too much stress on the seams and cause it to eventually fail?

Any opinions?

My washer was on the concrete in the basement, and I could hear the vibrations when it was on spin. I put some of those rubber garage mat things under it as "shock absorbers" and it dampened out the sound. Don't really know if it ever really vibrated anything too much, but it might be worth a shot..

Best option would be to get the washer secured so it doesn't rattle the whole house . If the floor isn't even you can try finding a rubber mat to put under it.

Friends' of mine found one of these mats was PERFECT for going under a washer. The feet fit perfectly down through the little holes.

I used to have a subwoofer built into the stand of a 75. I could see tremors in the water if the pumps were turned off, but the fish never said anything.

Thanks folks, I'll give it a shot. I think part of it has to do with the fact that the house is 100+ years old and kind of rickety, but hopefully some serious rubber will solve the problem.

Second floor, in a 100 year old house may be a converted attic. If it is and you don't know who converted it, consider weight... (my house was built in 1926 and If I were to convert my attic, I'd have to either brace the 2x's that are up there or replace them with 4xs) Don't know size or anything like that, and if it does ok with a filled washer I would think you'd be ok, but it seemed like a good idea to throw out the warning.

Yea, the system volume is just ~50 gallons. I figure it's less weight then 3 people having a group hug :lol:

Ugh, I hate those damn mats. I used to work at an Italian restaurant and one of my clean up jobs was carrying those suckers out 4-5 at a time. Combined with black grease and marinara sauce, it made a very interesting combinations of smell and weight to say the least LOL!

I think that these mats will work mine though for what you are looking for if you can find a way to get them under the washer/dryer.
