Spiny Box Puffer Question

I tried this over in the Fish Disease Treatment forum with no luck so I will try it here as I have always received good information from the club forum.

Can anyone point me to some resources that will help me diagnose a problem I am having with my Spiny Box Puffer? I haven't had much luck finding any.

Over the past 10 days or so a growth is occurring over one of his eyes. It is white and is slowly getting larger. I tried to get a picture last night, but the puffer wasn't participating in the activity.

It is currently being treated in with hyposalinity since it came down with ich a few weeks ago (S.G 1.009). I haven't noticed visible ich in 2 weeks. He is about three weeks into the treatment. The tank seems to be going through a cycle. Ammonia just went back down to zero a couple of days ago and the Nitrite is somewhere between 0.05 - 0.1 PPM.

I am not sure how much it cycled as I only caught as the parameters as they where coming back down. A couple of snails I missed when removing inverts died in the tank due to the hyposalinity treatment.

Thanks!

Kevin

Not that I am any kind of expert but you will have to better describe the growth. Is it fuzzy? fleshy? raw, like a sore? Thick or thin?

Photos would be even better :)

This is the best I can manage for now. It just doesn't want its picture taken :)

A secondary bacterial infection almost always follows a parasitic infection [sometimes un-noticed]. It is typically seen as fin deterioration or cloudy eyes. It is very typical for a puffer to have cloudy eyes after a protozoan parasite. Your water quality is really hampering its ability to fight the bacterial infection!!!! Another possibility for the cloudy eye could be flukes. Do you see any small white in color specks on the eye? They would look like little worms. If so use Praziquantil @ 2.5mg/L. Prazi can be used in conjunction with a copper treatment.

I don't see any specks on the eye or anywhere else. I am working on the water. I have completed a couple of water changes and will do another soon.

Thanks for the help!

There is a med, that I have caught wind of, that you actually rub onto the eye, works incredibly well, I'll try to find out what it is tommorrow

Well the eye is starting to clear up nicely. I guess improving water conditions have helped out. Thanks everyone for your help.

Now if I can just beat the ich!
