Splendid Leopard Wrasse

How do those wrasses sleep? Do they do the sand dive, mucas cacoon, or neither?

I've heard of six-lines doing the mucus cacoon, but mine never has.

Mine is a sand diver. I still haven't seen here since I dropped her in... It's only been two and a half days, but I am getting anxious to see her out and about.

Leopards like to bury themselves in the sand to sleep, or when startled/threatened. Once they get adjusted to your lighting schedule, they stay out all day just swimming around. Getting them to eat food is a key too. Mine all eat just about anything I give, but they were doing that from the time I got them. I got all of mine from just dave at Kermit's Reef. He has a choati coming for me soon too I hope.

I see that they put sand in the bag with yours...very good idea. They travel better in a bag with clean sand than an empty bag. Less stressful.

But not new/ fresh sand straight out of a bag unless it is a silicate sand because you know what new dry substrates (aragonite and such ) can do in an aquarium and you don't want that happening in the transport bag, though a few minutes during the trip home wouldn't hurt.

She was out this morning just prior to the lights coming on. She didn't look too happy in her new glass cage, but seeing her out and about was nice. I can't wait to see how she reacts to her tank mates. I hope the cleaner isn't too abrasive... I'm going to get something up to cover the back tonight, just in case she gets startled and wants to try flying (should have already done this...).

where is the update?
I hear they have feeding habits like manderins. Hence why i am hesitant on getting one. They are beautiful! Have you seen it eat at all?

i am curious as Chris is.. Are they known jumpers? After reading more and more and talking to others it seems the smaller wrasses are the main jumpers though.

I saw her for a few minutes on Thursday morning, but haven't seen her since, again... It was at least encouraging to see her, but I really wish she'd come out and play...

Well... Found her today belly up in the sand. I inspected her and she didn;t have any apparent issues (no holes, no frayed fins, no sunken belly, etc.). She was very near the anemones. I wonder if they might have stung her, or if Shakes and pal might have taken offense to her being in that area? Shakes is usually pretty tolerant, though. I really liked this one and hate to lose a fish...

Sorry to hear...sounds like one of those sudden in the first few weeks with no explanation deaths brought on by stress

She didn't look too happy Thursday morning, and the lights were out. She was nipping at the glass in a corner... I really liked that fish... I feel strongly that I have the environment for one to do well...

Yeah. I'm pretty bummed. Maybe I should have left it at the Critter longer to make sure it relaxed from the initial shipping shock. I'll try again sometime. I really liked this one. This one, the lineatus wrasse, and the mystery wrasse are probably my favorites.

if you do like them.. Lucy's Lagoon in Huntsville gets them in regularly. They quarentine their fish as well.
