sponge exposed to air

Like an idiot, I accidentally took my orange sponge out of the water for less than a second today. Is it guaranteed to die and, if so and I hear that a dead sponge can poison your tank...... is there anything I should watchfor. Thx.

they will come back 90% of the time after some die-off. the green ones usually are goners if exposed to air. i have moved pink, orange and yellow sponges from another tank that came back in full in a matter of days. i just poured tank water on them for the split second of air exposure during tank changes. my orange one was about 2" long and 1" wide then. now 1.7 years later its about 10" long and about 4" wide and coming up the sides of the rock and is spreading to another rock. the pink ones i think are indestuctible, ive carried them across the room from one tank to the other and in seconds they open and start filtering as if it never happened.
BTW ive got 15Xs more of the pink ones than any of the 3. they spread like crazy, ive got them on the back glass, the sand and about 1/10 of the underside of the combined LR.
