I have some white/ clear sponge (I think) that is covering some of my rocks. It is growing around my zoo's and under some other corals. I moved my brain coral and one of my sps colonies and there is similar white tissue underneath. I have had very slow growth on my sps and wonder if this sponge may be effecting them. Has anyone had any experience with sponges reducing pollyp extension in sps? I removed these rocks/ corals to another tank for the time being. Can I remove/ kill the sponges with out polluting my tank? Any advise?

Sometimes you get a helpful sponge, and sometimes you get a harmful sponge. Unfortunately, that one appears harmful. Your options include removing that rock and trying to save the zoas on it, or finding another creature to eat it in the meantime. Good luck.
