sponge question

I have a large red ball sponge with zooanthids. It has been doing very well for about 10 months but recently I had a small cyno outbreak & some of the cyno got on it. When I blew it off there were some dead spots left on the sponge which now seems to be spreading. Is there anyting that I can or should do to prevent this. I realize that the dead tissue will not regenerate but I want to keep it from getting worse.
Thank you,

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago with a white colored sponge ball. When I finally killed the cyano with Maracyn, the sponge had decreased in size. Now that the cyano is gone, it seems to have stabilized.

I don't do anything specifically for sponges, and they seem to be doing fine all throughout my tank (all are LR hitchhikers).

Without taking the sponge out of the water you should cut off the dead area along with a bit of healthy looking tissue around it. The decaying part will kill off the adjacent tissue in sort of a chain reaction.
