Spot Breast Angelfish (Japanese Swallowtail)

I have a 75 gal tank with 1 flame angel and 1 kole tang. I would like to get a japanese swallowtail angel (Genicanthus Malanospilos) but don't know if it OK with that size of tank. My lfs say it would be OK as long as I don't have a lots of fish in there. The only addition I will be getting in the future is a mystery wrasse to complete my fish stocks. Also is it better to have 2 females or a male/female pair to just having 1 (female)? My tank has 50 lbs. of live rocks with a 20 long fuge. I really like these fish and would like to have them and hoping a 75 gal will be OK for them. Thanks

I've never kept one, but I think even a single genicanthus angel will outgrow a 75 pretty quickly. Swallowtails are reported to be more sensitive than other genicanthus.

I have to agree with above. These fish need a 6 foot tank. They swim quite a bit. In a properly sized tank, you can keep a female or a pair, I wouldn't say one is better than the other.

from what i've heard females ship better than males. and if you're going to get one, get a female. without a female in the tank the male will revert back to female anyway. and females are cheaper. I have two females in my tank right now and waiting for one of them to man up !

I have a pair in a 4ft 110g. He was around 4.5in and looked okay in the tank. But a full grown one at 8in would not look happy.

With 50lbs of rock he may be happy in your tank since you don't have that much rock obstructing him. That is until he is closer to his adult size then no matter how little rock you have he will not be happy.

I have to agree with the others, they grow fast. I have a pair in my 180 and they are all over the place and fill the tank. I don't think they'll be happy long term (and I mean within a year) in your tank. Mine can be pretty aggressive too.
