Spray Bars

I am in the process of setting up a frag tank. The goal is to create and flood the NEW market with reasonable priced aquacultured ricordea and zoo frags. Okay, the real goal is to break even financially and have a few cool new corals for my display tank.
Anyway I digress.
I am putting a spray bar in the back of the tank (made of sched 40 pvc). My questions are as follows.
1. How many holes (1 per inch? 2 per inch?)
2. How big should the holes be? Drill bit size no inches please!
3. Should the holes be all in a line as I see in most commercial jobs OR should the holes be drilled randomly to maximize what little turbulent effect I get out of the bar.
Just looking for opininons and advice.

holes are 1/4 inch spaced 2" apart all the way around in an up down up down pattern - surround sound!

Yeah i kind of thought that a random pattern sounded better for a little more turbulence. All the ones I have seen in stores and online seem to be a single line of holes.

Cool set-up and sweet frags. Is that a closed loop system?

yea basically, its a 20T with a false wall overflow. water flows over the false wall and then is pumped into a complete circle of 3/4" PVC. the sump area houses the pump, heater and i'm planning a skimmer in my head right now that will fit in there as well.

John what size pump are you going to use (GPH)? Also what size tank?

55 gallon with a rio 2500 as the sump return. I will add additional powerheads if I need more flow but as I am starting out with rics and a few lps I want to keep the flow a little below tidal wave ferocity.

With a 3/4" return pipe I would buy several 3/4" T's don't glue them and you can aim them where you want them you could even add a little pipe to get it deeper in the tank. Drill 1/4" holes between the T's for surface agitation. Just my .02
