Spreading Algae

Although it may take alot of patience and emerald crabs, they are the best way to get rid of bubble naturally. If you can take the rock out of your tank and remove it with a brush' do that and then drop in the crabs.

Emerald crabs do wonders! I have 2 in my tank and they completely got rid of it in my tank. Or they eat it so fast I never see it.

Are the emerald crabs reef safe in your experiences?

Mine are, they don't bother any corals except when walking across them or picking at some stray algae growth.

I hear emeralds are pretty good unless they run out of algae then they may pick at coral, but I think they may or may not. sometimes they may have a taste for bubble algae and sometimes not. it's a crap shoot from what I understand. I have a bit of a hair algae issue and was thinking about getting a little emerald for my 28g nano...still up in the air about it.

I also read that they can't swallow the bubble whole, so they pop them which causes them to spread even more. However, once they spread the crab will pop/eat the new ones too. So I am assuming this is ok??? Anybody else beat bubble algae?

I have very little algae so I throw in some good quality algae wafers occasionally and they rush out and snatch them up! Keeps them fed and well behaved.

I had a small patch of it when i first setup my tank. Once it started to spread a little I picked up a few emeralds... within a day or two problem solved. They have remained good tank mates since then and help keep other algae at bay.

i had zero luck with emeralds
scribbled rabbit fish sailfing tang and scrubbing the rocks is the only luck i ever had

I am getting a desjardini sailfin tang too

I remove them manually. If they don't come off easily, I pop them with the sharpened end of a vinyl tube when I'm siphoning water at change time. Never had a problem with them spreading.
