I have equal number of sps and lps. My sps is not doing as well as the lps, and I've done everything I can do find out why. Is it possible that they don't get along chemically? All my parameters are good.
Okay, not sure. SPS seem to do better in my tank in very high flow areas whereas LPS seem to like lower to moderate flow. Now when I say "do better", I mean polyp extension which sometimes means absolutely nothing. LPS seem to grow faster in nutrient rich water and SPS should be nutrient free.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say not doing well. I think the only true measure is growth rate. Not color or polyp extension. Color can be determined by different lights and a SPS can grow very well and you may never see its polyps.
I don't think LPS release toxins in the water. Most common defense is sweepers. If you aren't convinced, run some carbon.
i run a predominantly stony tank, but has euphyllia, blastomussa, trachyphyllia, ricordea, 2 caulastea, turbinaria, pachyseris, and psammacora in it.... i have no trouble with the various types of corals getting along.
as far as "not doing as well".... like someone else asked... can you describe what you think is wrong with your sps?
