Haven't given up on my first tank but I'd like to think I've learned a couple things. So I'm trying a different way and I'll explain my logic. Any constructive criticism is appreciated
First attempt: 150 gallon tank at work
240watts of cheap LEDS (will be switching to 6 @ 4 foot t5).
Biopellet reactor (was an issue I've never gotten to UP 5ppm of nitrates)
Carbon reactor
NAC9 skimmer rated for 300-500 gallon (I had room)
7 fish
100 lbs live rock (pukani so it takes up a lot of space)
SICCE returns and flow
250 watt heater
Reef keeper
ATO
DOSING calcium, alk, mag
Issues: LPS, softies do great, montipora and BIRDSNEST do okay and show growth. But acros bleach from top and bottom in 6-8 weeks.
Attempt # 2: home 240 gallon 8 x 2 x 2
16 bulbs 4foot, t5
80 gallon sump
2@ 200 watt heaters
Kalkwasser in ATO
Cooling fans for temp control
Jaboe wave pumps wp60, wp40, wp25
Reefkeeper or APEX (probably Apex)
Rubble in and cheato in fuge area
Carbon reactor.
Mixed reef is the goal LPS, gorgonians, zoa, and SPS (including acropora). Those are my favorites
I think my original set up with dosing pumps, LED, and biopellets looked better on paper but was to complex. I'm hoping this back to basics will help.
