SPS bugs!

Just returned home from a 5 day trip and a few of my sps have these little white bugs on them now. Barely any polyp extension, and a few are losing flesh.

Anyone know what these are and how to be rid of them?

I was told interceptor might help. I hate adding chemicals to my tanks. So I was also told a pipefish, 6line wrasse, or hogfish may work.

Please help!

Take the corals out and dip in Bayer. Not sure who has interceptor. Did you dip at all prior to introducing new frags?

Interceptor is very benign. You do a full tank treatment instead of individual pieces. Problem is getting the interceptor. I believe people hve ordered some from Germany.

I just came home from lunch and noticed that there are faw fewer white bugs than there were last night. Polyp extension is pretty normal. Im wondering if I just overreacted last night. yes, there are still a few white bugs specks on some of the corals, but they no longer look agitated. My setosa is still showing skeleton for some reason. Ive got a dragon pipefish on hold at exotic aquarium I may snag tonight.

Where does one purchase the bayer?

Our of curiosity what are your parameters for ALK and salinity. If they are red bugs then your setosa shouldn't be affected.

Bayer can be purchased from Lowe's or Home Depot.

Are they by chance copepods? Hard to make out with picture

Are they white or Yellow ?
If they are yellow they are red bugs if they are white they are most likely copepod's as said above.
As HV1990 said check your Alk you might of had a Alk swing when you were gone.
For red bugs I have used a Turkey baster and just blew them off for a few nights then mine were gone.

thanks guys, ill check when I get home. its tough diagnosing this when I get 15 minutes with my tank on lunch break.

since I first noticed the problem, Ive lost the setosa, 3 mili frags, a small acro, with 2 more big acros hurting bad. All rtn -ing. Water tested fine except for alk at 11. Ive done a few water changes. I did get a pipefish, which I have yet to see eat anything. My last resort was the Bayer, which I dipped everything I could get loose tonight.

Not sure what else to do at this point. Ive been patiently watching corals lose flesh all week. I feel like im jut pouring money down the drain watching these sps rtn.

Sorry to hear about that. Good luck and please search forum for proper use of the Bayer dip. I lost a few frags to what I think was the dip. I think I had the Bayer to water ratio messed up. However, I do have this dialed in now with it. :D

I did 10ml in 3/4 of a red solo cup for 15 min, then a 10 min rinse in tank water, then into the tank. Most of the pieces polyps came out within 30 min of the dip. That was just before lights out. Ill check how they look this morning.

I know you said your water tested almost fine. How long has it been since you changed your rodi filters. I know people go by their tds meters as did I till it bit me in the arse. Twice. My meter checked fine. My corals looked like crap. Changed the filters and bam. Corals came right back both times. Just a possibility.

I actually buy my water from YourReef. I can ask, but Id like to think theyre pretty on top of things there.

Jeff Mullinax might be able to chime in on the Your Reef water or maybe John from Your Reef. I haven't had any issue with it and when I have talked with Jeff about it, I am almost sure he said it is better then the water that most people get from out of there tap water, when I go there to purchase something and get my 10 gallons of free water. :)

IHMO you are changing it too fast, how long has it been set up? How are you dosing? Or is it just water change to handle CA/ALK and Mg? Could be too drastic of a alk swing if you are doing a large WC on a 20g. Might want to spread it over a couple days.

YR water has been better than most, otherwise the store would have issues.

These are my exact same thoughts, how long has the tank been set up? Also as much sps you have in a 20g, water changes alone will not keep your levels where it should be. If your not supplementing Alk and Calk, they can become depleted of bicarbonate and the corals that deposit calcium carbonate to calcify can stress out and may lead to stn. So check your Calc, alk and even Mag and see where they're at.

Bugs on sps isn't caused by going to fast on stuff. Not sure why you two are referencing this. However, I do agree when it comes to other situations besides the bugs can you both clarify a little more? I'm a little confused to why you are starting this under the current situation.
