SPS coral tips help

Get those tests in and by the way if your po4 test kit only gives you either 0 and next 0.5 it is not good enough. 0.5 is very high po4 for sps you need a kit that is much more accurate and measures lower values. For example most sps keepers are looking for number between 0.01 and 0.06 ...that extra 0 after the decimal place is important.

Thanks , when I get to the house this evening I will have to check the test kit to see its accuracy . Thanks for the tip . I am currently running Seachem phosguard in the tank . That won't be a problem will it ?

First few weeks you will test every day to check levels and see what you need to compensate in dosing. Try to test at same time so you know daily usages. After you get it figured out, you really only need to test once a week or so just to confirm everything is staying at level and even then usually only KH. Stay above 7.5. Always test after a water change. You might have to skip a dose or two because both KH and CA tend to run high in the new water. Also, dose kh in the morning before lights. some additives can spike ph if added during lighting period.

Thanks . At first I thought I bit off more than I could chew . But after learning about how to dose and everything it should not be that difficult (I hope)

Its not. Just went through that myself in November. Now its as routine as feeding. Highly recommend a dosing pump at some point. makes life easier.

Not, its not necessary. Just makes it easier when you know that the dosing pump is adding the supplements every morning at the same time. Also helps when you leave for vacation. For my tank, I can leave for four or five days and not have to worry. After that i only need someone to come by to feed the fish.

Well you have a great point . I will get everything balanced out, then order a dosing pump . What a good one to get ? Jabeo? Bubble Magnus?

Thats what i did also. Read the articles here, lots of opinions and experiences. Have heard bad things about Jabeo. Think most people like the bubble magnus and brs dosers. I run a bubble magnus and its great, but have only had since December. Try to install the doser at least a week or two before you go away so you can make sure its dosing correctly.

I set mine up with water into a cup for a week and measured the amount every morning just to make sure i programmed it right. Then i set it up on the tank.

Great idea, I'll dose manually for a while .then get me a doser . So I can research a good one
