SPS corals

How many people here in Alabama are actually keeping SPS corals hardcore?

In my area there is not many people trying to keep these corals, unfortunately I believe it is because they are not really educated on how to properly keep them...

Just wanted a show of hands....

What do you mean by hardcore. We have lots of them but it's not all we focus on. Knillifer is what I would call hardcore. He has(he is currently selling all his stock because he has to move)the prettiest I have ever seen in a personal tank. He can grow a frag to large colony in less than a year.

I've got about 40 different SPS colonies and growing-out frags, and it's been at least 4-5 months since I lost one. I'd say I have a pretty good handle on what I'm doing. There are several other reefkeepers in the Montgomery area who have way more than I do, and that's just the ones I know about. Just because you don't see a lot going on in your area doesn't mean it isn't going on somewhere.

My reef started with softies and Lps corals 5 years ago, I had pc lights on my 46 gal tank. I tried sps without success , I upgraded my tank to a 75gal 1 1/2 years ago And added mh lights. I now have mostly sps corals and have had good success with them, they require more care and water parameters have to be just right but are very rewarding and beautiful to watch grow.
It seems there are more folks keeping them in Montgomery area thN Birmingham

I think I have a few SPS's in my tank. I'm not sure if i would call my self hardcore, but definitely not softcore.

:)

Art ,
don't fool yourself, you are hardcore on my list. I have seen your tank, and only hope that my tank will look like yours in about 8 months. Wej ust set this new tank up about 4 months ago and that's where we just put all our frags that we got from you last week. Our show tank has some sps but they do not grow like the new tank.

well its good to see that a few people do understand the requirements of keeping SPS corals...
I ask because before I had to tear my tank down two years ago I had many SPS colonys and frags, and was leaning into getting more. Just needed to upgrade a few things...

I am back at a LFS here and was thinking about getting some in the store to increase the interest and attract people who are interested.

SPS are extremely rewarding to grow and among the most beautiful corals IMO....
