SPS Dominant Tanks Running Chinese 120W LED Lights?

Buying cheap Chinese knock offs is the problem with our economy. BUY AMERICAN products. If we keep buying these cheap products not only will we be supporting the Chinese economy and not our own, but we will be buying their crap once again and wasting more of our money to keep them building more cheap items for the world to buy. If you want to save a couple of dollars then do a DIY with products that have been tried and proven to work. Keep buying their cheap crap and you will be living in a world that is ruled by the Chinese. They have no regard for the enviorment or the quality of life of their people. Just a quick example, Hot Wheels cars, the paint on them contains lead. We buy these cars for our kids to play with, the little ones put them in their mouths and play with them. Would you give a lead fishing weight to your kid to play with? I realize this is a little extreme example. I will be building a DIY led fixture in the future and I will be doing some research concerning where the items were manufactured before I buy them. I do realize that I probably can't find all of the components made in the USA but I will try to.
We are killing our own economy. We as Americans need to think globally and act locally and stop buying products made in foreign countries.
P.S. self checkout registers are another job killer! Go through the lines that have a checker and help support the local economy. The job you save might be your own or your kids.:-)

lol, you do know us export as well right. you dont want to use product made else where you find yourself have almost nothing to use.
as long as the product work, i dont see any point to use the more expensive one.
may i ask what skimmer you are using now?

In a business sense, thinking globally is definitely not acting locally. Specialization and competitive advantage keep businesses going.

Be careful of Chinese led's. First many don't use Cree led's. Also they seem to push the power through them so the led's burn out early. I bought Maxspect Razor which I believe is Chinese but sold by Coralvue but uses Cree led's.

Cree Leds are not the only Leds that grow coral... My bridgelux 3watt Leds bleach euphillia at 30+ inches deep. I can prove that too.

I agree with the concerns of burnt LEDs but only on the fixtures that have no heatsink. It is the hyper violet leds that burn but i have heard that this issue has been addressed.

I have 2 119 watt chineese fixtures over my 90 gallon. They are the 20k version. I have been running them for about a year and a half now. I did a par reading when I first got them and after a year of running I did another par reading. It was basically the same numbers. I have had great growth and the colors are amazing in my opinon. I had a tank crash a year ago and slowly have been restocking my sps. Here are a few pictures...

Yes other LED's will grow coral without an issue. The non-Cree Chinese lights have proven they can grow coral.

I feel that the Cree are better LED's and that is why they cost more. The Chinese non-Cree lights are truely affordable and look good and light the tank well. I just worry about how long they will last.

If I was on a really tight budget I would have bought the Chinese lights. I had a bit extra in my budget so I bought the Maxspects. If I had a huge budget i would have stepped up one more level.

I have only just begun to use one but I am already impressed. It is a 120 watt fixture with 55 3w LED driven at 2w. The white and blue are on separate power cords and each have their own dimmer. I had been running 4 T-5 bulbs and saw a difference in some Acros within a few days. One of the most impressive is a 2" no-name millepora frag that was browned out. By the third day I noticed that the bottom half was turning a bright lime green and the tip was looking bluish. By day 5 it was neon green with powder blue tips and interior of the corallites are pink. Every other Acro is also coloring up really well. I do have the fixture fairly low over a 47 bowfront and would likely use a second one to give me the coverage I want. Considering the fixture was $145 shipped from California, it is nearly the same price as switching out the 4 tubes in the T-5 I was using. It has only been a few weeks but I have nothing bad to say about it yet. I really like the dimming features as well.
