SPS dying -- Help

Hi,

I keep kiling new SPS and need some help figuring out why.

I have a 230g tank, with 90 gallon sump and a 90 gallon tank that shares the same sump.

When I add a new SPS to the 230, its polyps extend, it looks good for ~ 3 weeks, then its tissue just falls off overnight. This has happened for the last 3 frags I have purchased and i'm at my wits end.

The tank is lit with AI Hydra 52's at 20K for a 7 hour photoperiod at 60%

flow is provided by 2x MP40 QD, and 4x Gyre XF150s

Im using Aquaforest reef salt and the tank is stable at the following

Salinity - 35-36 pptw/ calibrated refractometer
Alk - 8.2 - 8.4 DKH w/ hanna checker
Calcium - 405ppm, w/ Salifert
Magnesium - 1400 w/ Nyos
Nitrate < 5ppm w/ Salifert
Phosphate 0.02-0.06 w/ hanna ULR
Temperature - 81-82

SPS dying -- Help

Check for stay voltage?
Think temp is a bit high 76-78 for me.

Have you double checked your Alk with another test kit? I was using the Hanna checker myself and noticed it was way off when I compared it to Red Sea and Salifert. Also, do you run GFO?

Temp is high IMO. 76-78 is a much safer range IME.

After that I would check PAR levels if you can. Lighting would actually be the first place I would look.

thats a little strange if everything stays as stable as youre saying.

how new is the tank? what fish do you have in there? any signs of AEFW?

Nyos reports 8, salifert reports 8.5.

I do not run GFO. I run Foz-down ( Lanthanum chloride) at 4ml / day diluted and dosed via 100 small increments, without it P04 increases by .03ppm / day

I also dose 100ml of vinegar per day.

The tank is 2 years old, no signs of AEFW.

I have
1x lemonpeel angel
1x Coral Beuty
2x Bengaii cardinal
1x LARGE maroon clown
1x Blue tang
1x Blonde Naso
1x Marine Betta
1x Mandarin
1x Foxface

Montipora also grow fine, even on the bottom of the tank ( bare bottom)

How are you maintaining alk n Ca?

You say 'New' sps. Do you have established sps in the tank?

I have established colonies that don't have any issues. Issues are with any new colony or frag from multiple sources.

Alk and Calc are maintained through a calcium reactor.

This is a picture of what is happening. This red planet had great polyp extension yesterday and had no areas without tissue. This is it this morning

I was using ad reef salt but got an icp test in and they recommended looking at my salt mix for impurities. I switched bc I had some symptoms like yourself. Switched to Fritzz, few weeks later I have some frags that are healing from the damage. I dunno about that Af stuff
