SPS encrusted rock

My 178 gal SPS reef has been going for almost 1.5 years and is doing really well. All parameters are stable and the coral are growing like crazy. Some are actually growing too fast at this point.

And here comes the question:

I'm going to be selling off some colonies that are either growing too fast or that I would like to replace.

Is there an easy way to kill the encrusted portion of the rock once the colony is removed? I don't want to do anything major that would affect the surrounding colonies. My intention is to place higher end and slower growing frags in their place.

Good problems to have I know.

Thanks in advance,

Adam

you can always use epoxy putty to cover them up, or if no other corals attached remove the rock and let the encrusted pieces left over die off.

I would be willing to bet a good blast of boiling water with a turkey baster will kill it and not harm anything near it. Like the aiptasia anemone method.

Epoxy putty. I put it in thin and somewhat loose on the areas and was able to remove it with a pick after a few months.
