SPS Flow question

I have added about 12 SPS corals to my tank and they are looking pretty good after two weeks. But, i am trying to increase my flow not by GPH but more about area of flow. I have a 55g with two Hydor 4's on their Wavemaker wide open 1400gph each on a 2sec alternating. To increase are of flow and turbulence i cut them down to about half. They are stirring towards the front of the tank. I added a Hydor Nano 240gph in the back left corner and added a Hydor 2 600 hog to the back right corner. Both are flowing along back of the tank one towards bottom and one halfway up. I have been having a problem with detritus building up and nitrates having gotten up to about 20ppm and phosphates are up to .06 ppm. Was this a smart move ? I really want to be successful with SPS

You might want to try different pumps.... The maxspect Gyre pump is awesome !!! Or drop a mp 40 in there , several different modes of operation really help suspending the detritus .

If these measurements are after the addition of the circ pumps i'd wait a week on it...you're probably blasting stuff that has been trapped for a while in the rock and sand into the water column. i'd let it alone, do a water changes and measure until you see stable numbers.

I actually have my eye on two Jaebo RW8's

I actually have also fired up a Phosban Reactor about half full of Filter Floss that I am running a few hours a day while I blast the rocks with a turkey baster. Yes a lot of stuff was stirred up from adding the power heads in the back. These numbers are from before I added the power heads.

Stirring up anything will knock your levels out of whack. Give it a week or so after a wc or 2 and then check your numbers. I redid my rocks a few months ago and spiked the nitrate up to 40ppm. After a few small water changes daily and then a big one it took about 2 weeks to get back down to 0.
