SPS frag tank Alkalinity question

As I'm reading through the manual for my Red sea ABC+ additive. It recommends that sps frag tanks have an akalinty of 12. Do anyone else have their frag tanks this high?

Nope. My frag tank is UV 'isolated' from the main system, but shares water, so alk is nominally 9 dkh.

I would say the same, but then they had mag, and ca high as well. The only thing I would thing as to why is to compensate for growth?

I've always had the most success when my Alk is around 7-8. I shoot for 7.5ish. However the most important thing is for the alk to be stable!

At one point I was testing daily but then moved to twice a week. As soon as GHL releases their KH Monitor I will be sold. KH, is imho, the most important parameter to check on a regular basis. Too many things can go wrong if alk swings up or down... And the crazy thing is all it takes is hours/days for things to go bad.

I'm guessing to sell you more of there product.

Not really, it's just Red Sea's philosophy. They sell a salt with alk in the 12's and another with alk in the 7's depending on if people are running low nutrient system or not. They recommend different parameters and nutrient levels whether you're looking for more growth or more color.
