SPS Frags

Today I put a big wad of glue on a round plug, pulled the frag out of the water and sat it in the glue and let it setup for a few minutes out of the water.

I then glued the bottom and stuck it on a rock.

Curious if others let their frags sit out of water for a few minutes when fragging?

Historically I have been really bad at glueing corals. I usually would try to do it by just pulling the coral out for a few quick seconds.

I bet I lose 20% of what I buy because it falls down and I forget about it or don't see it and then it dies. Another 10% loss because I am fat and clumsy and get glue all over the frag and my hands and then my hair and it sucks.

Just curious if anyone has really figured this out and has great methods , and am curious how long people will pull coral out of the water to frag.

Thanks!

I also let my SPS frags sit out of water for a few minutes. Doesn't do them any harm. When I frag multiple pieces, I usually place plugs in a rack outside of the water. Then I place glue on them and let them sit while I frag. As I frag pieces, I place them on the plugs to set. They are out of water for 1 minute to 4 minutes, depending how difficult it is to frag the colony. Theres no problem with them sitting out of the water for this amount of time.

I'll then usually use the toothpick to smooth the glue around the base where it contacts the epoxy. I've not had a single frag pop out or fall off the plug since doing it like this. Hope this helps anyone reading this thread
