SPS growth question

I have what I believe to be a birds nest , it had I thought died out but the tip have now started growing out . My question is will it just grow at tips or will it eventually grow back down the dead spots

it will eventually encrust the dead skeleton again in most cases.

it take a long time for it to encrust over the dead skeleton. and might slow growth.

Seriatopora's encrust very slowly, but when the colony will grow out you won't notice the base that much
