Hello all...

I have own three pieces of sps coral for about 2 months without any signs of growth. I have (pocillipora), (acropora- pink/teal), and a (staghorn). My acro is a flourence green with brown when lights are off. Staghorn has also been a brown.
I need to know if I have enough lighting in my tank for these types of sps coral? lMH run 9hrs everyday. 2:30p - 11:30p.

As for as the water parameters...all is well. 5 gallons of water is changed every week or two. I have tested for boron, strontium, calcium, pH, nitrates, dKH/alkalinty, salinity is at 1.024, magnesium, iodine/iodate...and I can't seem to figure out why the pieces haven't turned to there original colors.

I have a 24 gal nano cube with a aqua-c remora skimmer...just recently employed a refugium...added the artica chiller due to the water temp...now runs at 77 - 78 degrees. I have truly run out of ideas...is there anyone that wouldn't mind sharing their ideas.

Thanks. :mixed:

150w over the 24g nano correct? How deep is the tank and how far off the water is the lights, where are the frags?

I have 150's over a 75, I always say I can keep them alive, but gowth is slow and won't be fragging anytime soon.

I would assume your tank is shallower than mine and the intensity on the bottom would be greater. So you can keep them alive, and they will grow, just slowly.

To make them grow fast, up to the 250's

But sometimes, SPS will dog out for months and take off all of the sudden, I myself am waiting to see this.

Stick with a 10K bulb temp, because it has the best PAR, this will insure you get the most from your 150w.

It takes time to get a photogenic SPS tank, and with 150s a little longer. If your up for a little bit of a challenge, stick with 'em....upgrade otherwise.....I would have had I known.

Thanks for the advise: sacramentodots...I do appreciate it. I first started with all piece at the very top of the tank...and the colors went from pink and neon to flourencent green...I have now arrange to keep them alive by placing them ontop of the sandbed. I'm trying to slowy acclimate them to a lower light intensity.

Then hopefully, the full color comes back. I have a 14k bulb (current usa) and a 20k daylight bulb (coralife). I like the color of the tank with the 14k...more blue and better colors. The 20k daylight bulb displays a lot of white in the tank. So bright tha the colors are almost washed out. I was looking into upgrading the lighting but I can't seem to locate a 250w fixture that will fit the dimensions of the tank. My have to hang a pendant or fixture.

Have a Safe 4th of July!!!!!

you can grow acros plenty fast under 150s. Just get your water clean, and they'll grow. You can add more light and it will help, yes, but theres no reason to.
