SPS growth ?

I am setting up a new tank a link is shown in my signature. I love the look of SPS's and the branching and tabling of many of the corals but my question is given optimum growing conditions, don't these colonies take years to grow ? When I think about buying a "stick" I can't help thinking I'll be dead before this thing ever hits 6". I think I'll be gearing more towRd colonies and maintaining them as opposed to growing them. Maybe a few sticks until I get the system dialed in but that's it. Correct me if I'm wrong ! Thanks

i had one that was the size of a pencil and half the length it took 5 months to encrust a lot then took off 3 years later its 14"x 12" others grew from frags to huge colonies in 1.5 years, but others grow slower so all depends what type and condition i have oregon torts that just sat there a while than took off and grow about an inch per month on each branch. T me it seems they sit there until they are ready and shoot up.

Different sps species grow at different rates, but for common sps you see out there like green slime, birdnest, digi, millies, staghorn...... I would say you only need to wait for about a year for 1-2" frags to take off. Once they've grown into mini colony size, you will notice new growth almost weekly.

Really depends i have an acro which has barely grown.

I've had some die ( did have the KH drop really low) and some grew quite well.
