i have a monti cap that was fine for a few months and then started turning white from thin middle outward. It continues to grow well, but for some reason is still white and i think getting worse. Have the found a definate cause or cure for this?
First thing you need to do is determine if there is something in your tank causing the issue.
What are your tank perameters?
When you take a closer look at the coral, use a magnifying glass if you have to, do you see any bugs on it?
Do you have hermit crabs in your system that walk on your corals?
Are you using RODI water or tap?
There could be a number of factors that contribute to stn.
second the motion check parameters if all is good look for pest it took me over a month to figure that out , i had stn loss of color then a white spot i went from checking and double checking all water then people said they need more flow large colonies will loose color and turn white under neath because of flow so the mp40's got moved nothing then the lights move em up more another 2 weeks go by nothing finally i got bad took it out to frag so i didn't loose the whole colony and I spotted a brown patch looked like stn left behind under a magnifying glass it proved to be eggs and now fighting that AEFW. you might have a different bug but in the end it is best to check when you get that gut feeling something isn't right in your tank and your water is good look fast don't wait haste makes waste in this hobby ...good luck hope it is something simple like alk or ph..
Calc 430 alk8 dkh now but when it started it got down to 6 I also moved a powerhead to get more flow under the coral. Mag unknown phosphate and nitrate 0
ok update i have not seen any bugs on or near it. after moving my powerhead to give it quite a bit of flow over the whole thing it seems to have either stopped or slowed down, and growth of polyps and size has increased. I have also done some water changes, and kept dkh at about 8-9dkh. calcium 420. no nitrates or phosphates and i run phosban off and on just in case. here are pics from the first sign to now, but over the last week or so it doesn't look like it has worsened... will it heal over?
