I picked this guy up as "purple bonsai" but I googled it and it doesnt look the same... what is it?

its body is purple with green polyp

its on the far left

It looks like a purple bonsai to me because it looks like mine. Maybe when it grows a little more you will be able to see the resemblance.

Maybe if the source is reliable. There are a lot of fake Bonsai Acroporas out there. The original came from GARF.

ummmm, nope, nope, purple acro does not = purple bonsai. Nope not ever. Purple acro = maybe wannabe purple bonsai, or = just purple acro. I thought the one I had was a garf but I corrected my post when i was told by my husband no its just a purple acro that looks like one because it can't be traced. No matter what it's called, it is very pretty and nice to look at :D

This post actually got me doing quite a bit of research into the question asked on this thread of Purple Acro= Purple Bonsai? Looked up a lot of info (not done reading it all) on GARF, founders and what is considered a bonsai and why. Very interesting.

 Yep. The true Bonsai name is ripped off often, and it makes it tough to find a legit piece. Here is my little formula for IDing I made that might be some help.

Coral ID basics (based on my opinion):
Did it come with a show name with legitimate lineage? > Yes. Then you already have an ID. > No. Then find the species name.
Can't find the species but close to it? > Display confer as "Genus cf. species", example "Acropora cf. millepora".
Do not know how to find species or its too small? > Choose the color followed by Genus, example "Red Acropora".
Color blind? > Name after everyday object followed by "thingy", example "twig thingy".
