Have some birdnest that i neglected big time in my tank over the last two months. Well parts of it are still alive, im cleaned it up and put it on some eggcrate. Ive got it about 1.5" below the water line and about 6 inches below the light (T5 x 4). Is this too high? Should it have a large amount of flow? Any other notes?

Birds nest is pertty strong. Give it moderate flow for now. If it starts to bleach get it to a partially shaded area. Make sure your Ca, Alk, and pH are all in check. You can also use a iodine dip if there is any receced areas you are worried about.

1.5 inches below the water line? S. Hystrix are very hardy in general but I think this may be too high. Nearly all SPS that I've placed too high in my tank had showed some level of bleaching, so I try not to do that anymore. Remember that the water column also provide some level of UV protection so I think it's advisable to put it lower. good luck, birdsnests are very hardy and beautiful.
