Sps on substrate

I have a question.

can an SPS frag attach itself to an aragonite substrate and grow on there without being attached to solid rock work?

this hasn't happened to me, nor do i currently have SPS, i was just wondering this.

I place frags on the sand bed on plugs all the time, just to get them use to my LEDs (sometimes this actually works!)

From my experience they will get knocked over daily by snails and crabs, if they don't get knocked over I can only imagine (without a plug) the flow would eventually topple them over.

So I would say no, but I can't keep SPS to save my life right now without some kind of issue so I may not be the best source.
