SPS placement...or height in tank...

Hi all...

I have had terrific growth on my SPS corals...now my only concern is the height...about 3" below the water line...or about 8" below the MH. Can't raise the MH...current fixture 150w 14k...but I've seen some tanks here that have corals growing right up to the surface...thoughts/advice please...thanks.

Do you have a problem with them currently or are they all fine? Are you asking what height the rest of us keep ours at?

Coral placement is pretty dependent on the type of lights and corals you have. It can vary greatly between corals. My milleporas and branching montiporas are happy right under my 400w Radium, but my other acros like tricolor, pink lemonade, red planet etc prefer to be a little further from the light. My caps and some encrusting montis like sunset do best under my T5 fixtures, they grow very fast. But my rainbow and superman montis like it under my 400w MH.

So its really a lot of trial and error, paying attention to what your corals prefer. It also depends on what you want out of your sps. Some people want good growth and others want good color.
