Sps polyp extension only in shaded areas

Koralcrazy

In Memoriam
I have a strange problem going on. My sps corals only show good polyp extension where there isn't direct light, like on the undersides of the coral. Any reasons for this? I thought the obvious...too much light, but checked PAR and levels are acceptable (250-400). Btw- polyp extension at night with lights off is great.

Thanks for any tips/help!

depends on the coral. stylophora for example needs like 150 or less...and montipora caps will have full polyp extension at about 40 par. so yeah, depends on the coral.
