SPS Red Bugs In 40 Breeder

Alright I know that interceptor was discontinued but there are others out there. i.e. interceptor spectrum, bayers, etc. was wondering if my best bet would be a full tank dose or a dip?

All SPS are frags so that's something that's in my favor, there are no inverts in the aquarium and there are only 2 fish in the tank. So im not worried about the whole die off of the inverts or any crustaceans for that matter.

There are about 5 SPS corals in total in there. just wondering what would be the best method as some of the medication that has been used were tested on large aquariums or are very costly $54.00 for 6 pills of Interceptor spectrum 51-100 lb dogs.

Any help is very much appreciated, also if there is anyone willing to donate some red bug meds to me let me know.

The number of SPS is irrelevant. How many acropora species are there, and what kind? Red bugs will only infest acropora species. If there are only a few, then I would just take them out, dip them, and put them back. Dip a total of 3 times, over the span of about 2 weeks. That way any present in unhatched eggs will also be eliminated.

This is how I solved my problem. Before getting heavy into acros I only had a few. Got red bugs, dipped the acros I had, never seen em since. I dip all coral before bringing it into the tank, and never bring in the plug or rock or whatever the piece is attached to so eggs stay out as well.

As far as a dip, theres a million preferences, I personally use Revive, others will recommend Bayer Insecticide (you can search around for the dosage to dip with), but most dips will take care of red bugs if used correctly.

Best of Luck,
Andy

If you can get avros out dip them with bayer. Works great just go to bayer dip forum for doseages. If not spectrum works great to i used half a large chewy per dose for 3 doses once weekly on 150 gallon system. No more red bugs!!! But the few crabs and shrimp i couldnt catch died after second dose. I shut off carbon-gfo reactor for 12 hrs then did water change. Good luck. There is a interveptor spectrum forum on here if you want to hear more.

Thanks guys, sorry all 5 are acropora. So revive will do the trick huh, maybe ill try the dip. So after the dip i should just place them in their original position and run carbon?

Or should i just dip them in some aquarium water after the revive dip and put them on the sand bed?

Also never thought of the plug being the transporter of red bugs, i always inspected the coral and thought i was good.

Reviveg dip wont kill red bugs i always dipped my corals in reveve and still got them. Do a search on Bayer dip its a insectcide u can get at home depot or lowes and works great. There is a whole thread bout it telld u dosages and how long to dip. I use it at 10ml per 3 cups tank water 10 min.dip and soak frag in clean tank water in containrr for 10 min then back in tank. Kills aefw to but not their eggs do a dip once s eeek for 3 weeks should do it. But read the thread good info there.

I honestly just eye balled it. It was only a capful, but the volume of water may have been less than recommended.

I looked up the bayer product which looks promising, but the direction for making the dip are a little sketchy. The thread I found says " in a couple of cups of tank water I put in a squirt" then said he used 3 squirts but was really stressed, i was lost after that.

The next promising thing i found was that he used a pint of tank water and a squirt and a half and it did the trick.

What do you guys think about a cold water cure for red bugs?

a little off topic if you could pm me andy i have some questions on your lighting.

I convinced myself to try the bayer dip. what do you guys think should i close this thread and post results on the thread that regards bayer dip or show you guys?

Thanks guys I followed jdraider75 and it worked very very well. Even seen a AEFW die with the red bugs as well. Did not lose a coral at all. Thanks for the instruction posts
