SPS releasing eggs

Gorgeous tank.

Tell us more about your parameters and what supplements / dosing you do?

Thank you!

I'm using a calcium reactor and two-parts dosing. My parameters are CAL 420-440, ALK 7.0 and MAG 1440.

Once a week I dose zeovit amino acid. Other than that I do nothing special.

I've only seen it in videos of actual reefs and once other in a guy's tank.. Congrats =).. Tank looks great in the back ground as well..

Thanks for the quick reply. So why run a calcium reactor and a 2 part?

Don't they both do the same thing essentially?

May be a "dumb" question, I've never researched or looked into coral spawning at this level, could you capture those eggs and start to grow frags?

It's happened with other corals but in not sure about sps. I've seen torches and suncoral eggs hatch into babies

If they were fertilized, yes, theoretically --

However larval SPS apparently rely on some type of chemical reaction which we are oblivious to. This reaction causes the larva to attach and begin utilizing photosynthesis via zooxanthellae to nourish itself, and grow it's first true polyp slowly turning into a colony.

There is a YouTube video about acropora spawning. Coraline algae plays a role in that floating larva will land and grow. Less Coraline algae less landing sites and new corals.

If you have pocilipora in your tank and you are good at reefing, you will eventually have little baby poci colonies everywhere. It can be such a nuisance that some SPS'ers have no-poci policy in their tanks. Other than that, I have never heard of anybody getting the spawn to live.

Thanks everyone!

My Ph is a bit low at night. To keep the Ph up I dose two-parts at night and use Calcium reactor during day time. I used to have Kalk reactor via ATO but I find it hard to incorporate with my current setup. I hope this helps.

Yes, you are right about pocillopora. I don't want it to take over my tank. But I wouldn't mind seeing this coral spread. I got this from RR and it looked very similar to Strawberry Shortcake.
