sps sump question?

I was thinking of tanking out my filter sock and plumbing my return directly in my skimmer(asm G_3)
I feel that the filter sock is just another detirutus trap?

do you guys have any input?
my tank is a bb

thought I would ask in this forum because the only thing I keep are sps so I wanted answers from people with similar stocked tanks

I like my filter sock. I change out frequently. I have to. One out, one in.

filter socks are important and trap lots of things that you don't want in your display tank

Get about 7 socks and they wont be traps. You could still plumb to your skimmer and then run the output through a sock.

are you saying to change the socks daily?


right now I change mine every week when the water change is done

I change every couple days and then when all are used run them in the washing machine. I just hated running only 2 socks at a time through the machine. Some people change daily, I just don't see the need for my tank anyhow.

I hadn't ran a filter sock on my bb for a year and I regret not. The detritus build up was nasty and if you have good flow to keep the detritus suspended there isn't anything keeping it from being in your water column. Here about 3 weeks ago I was getting sick of seeing what I thought where microbubbles but after close inspection was detritus/particles. Added a filter sock and helped kick alot of it out. Only thing is mine is like a 100 micron I would like the 25 or so. What do you guys use?
