SPS tanks without macro / DSB

I am in the process of putting together my new tank, and am building the sump right now.

my current 2yo tank has a sump with DSB and macro in it with a good amount of LR in the display, am curious to see those without a DSB or macro in the sump. non zeo tanks that is.

reason for asking is id like to have more room in the sump for a frag section instead of DSB and macro.

I just upgraded my two tanks into a 210 and took off the dsb (a 40 breeder with 6 inches of sand) and also took off the refuge that had a couple macros in it. The new tank only has cheato right now and I don't have a good light for it yet. The nitrates went up to 20 without the sand bed and macros. But who knows maybe its just a little cycle from the little bit of new sand I put in? I dunno.

I have no sand or macro in my system, jus high flow, powerful skimming, and I use activated carbon... I even have a koralia magnum 6 in my sump to keep the flow high there too... jus what I do, based on my own opinions on how to run a system like this... good luck :)

Hi there on the forums,

I am in the process of building a new aquarium.
I have chosen to house in my sump a skimmer, calcium reactor,NP reactor and return pump only. My main display will be BB too. I am planning to keep SPS under LED.
I will start a tank journal soon.

Cheers

I have a super shallow sand bed, like 1/2 inch. BB sump with just my skimmer and reactor. I was running a fuge for a long time but took it out for many reasons. I have seen an increase in no3. I was always undetectable but not it has gone up to 10ppm. My sps look much better. KISS Keep It Simple Stupid, more is not always better.

Great thanks guys. I'll be having a very shallow sand bed in the display too. In the sump will be bb with skimmer reactor rowa carbon and return with frag section. If I have no3 probs I'll add macro later

Kinda wierd because my corals look better with the increase in no3 but mine is just over 20. Still hopeing it goes down some though, getting a little worried...

I am running BB, full blown SPS tank 110g about to hit the 1 yr mark. No pics since my camera phone sucks. I run a PM skimmer, sump with filter socks 2x MP40 for flow and activated carbon only. Phosphates and nitrates undetectible with no sand no chaeto no macro. I do use Prodibio Biotim and Biodigest 1 vial of each every 2 weeks which keeps the po4 and nit undetectible.
