Sps to feed or not to feed?

I feed my 90g mostly sps tank with cyclopeeze and golden pearls. I have never seen the sps polyps ever catch any of the food that I feed them.

What do they eat or do they?

Thanks all

Everything I've read suggests that SPS are carnivorous. Cyclop-eeze may be too large though. I feed a mixture of Kent's Zooplex, Phytoplex and DT oyster eggs. I've seen a bit of a feeding reaction, but not too much, so I don't know if it's helping or not.

I run a very "natural" tank setup with mostly live rock and sand for filtration. I may have enough plankton in the tank in general to support their feeding requirements. FWIW, I have baby Banggai cardinals and a few 1-1.5" maxima clams I don't feed that grow and do very well, so I'm guessing there's enough microfauna in the tank itself to handle the SPS.

they eat fish poop.. u just need to blow some of it off ur rocks every once in awhile and they will be fine

There are things you can add to feed sps. Supposedly the additive Coral Vitalizer that is part of Zeovit works well for some people. But as far as actively feeding...I think most have the understanding that SPS do not actively feed very much on "food" added to the tank like phyto. Though the phyto does feed microfauna which supposedly does feed the sps naturally.

I get a good response from feeding oyster egg's, and I also see a few of my corals catching cyclopeeze. Basically turkey basting the rock's gives the same response, but I think the food is a bit more nutritious.

Sps also eat bacteria. I know that's one of the main point's of Zeo, they shake the reactor to release the bacterial mulm to feed the corals. As well as other food's in the form of addatives.

Never would I have thought that fish poop could be a staple source for my sps. This hobby is a constant learning experience.

Thanks guys

So what about those of us with really light stocking of fish. I've only got 1 fish and haven't planned on getting another. Would feeding rotifers be a good source of food for the the SPS?
