SPS without light?

Gives Bad Advice.
How long can sps survive without like. I know they're mostly, if not entirely dependent on the sun and light. but how long can they last without it.

think of monsoon seasons in the tropical areas of southeast asia. it rains for months, and i'm assuming the acros and such don't get decent light. i'm sure they feed off the ocean.

Ok well i understand that they'll live for awhile. My problem is that i might be buying liverock with SPS on it from another member and i don't have any lights yet. I wasn't planning on buying rock that has already been through a cycle and i've come across a good sale. will they be ok for possibly a week before there's no saving them?

I had a light timer mishap and mine once went 5-6 days without light (well besides ambient light). I don't recommend it. It takes a long time for them to recover and I still have one that is experiencing STN after the event.

I really think that a week would be asking for trouble since your tank will still experience some sort of mini-cycle (not to mention that a new tank isn't the best place for a tough to keep coral).

i'm going to say some will survive and some won't. the ones that will survive i'm guessing will brown out. i'll leave this to the experts though.

I can confirm that from personal experience! And It takes a looooong time to get the color back to where it was (months)
