Squammie ???'s

Hi. I have a squamosa clam and it has a blue-rim around the mantle. I also have another that does not. Is this common? Also, I saw a friends squamosa clam that was a bit larger, maybe about 4.5" and its mantle did not extend as far out as the mantle on my clams. When squammie's get bigger like that, do they not need to show their mantle as much to eat/photosynthesize? What could be causeing it? She has other clams as well, that show no signs of problems whatsoever.

some clams will stretch out more for light if they need to. if they dont then they willl stay retracted. it isnt a sign of bad health when they are doing that if there are no other problems. good luck

oh, well, ok, thanks, i guess i never thought of it that way, ... so the bigger a clam is, the more mantle it has, so the less it needs to stretch it out in favorable conditions then?
