Got my first clam today and I was wondering how much light is enough for them I know you need calcium and alk but I have it in my 55 with 220 watts of light it's only about 3 inches from the light but I was wondering how much light I would need on a 29 and how much I would need on a 55 to put it on the bottom since they like the sand better than rock

what type of lighting are you using? watts per gal doesnt really mean anything, it more the type of light and how deep it can penetrate into the water.

In the wild,Squamosa's are found on the reef, not on the sand. not that you cant keep it there if you lighting is strong enough and thats where you want it, but there reef clams

it all depends on what kind of light you have, IMO squamosa do not need a heck of a lot unlike its high maintainance peers. I keep my squamosa under 384W of Power compact and it has grown an inch in two months. For a 29G tank I'd go no less than 150W of high power light. BTW I keep my clam on the sandy bottom so you should be fine by doing that. And squamosas can thrive on both sand or rock. I'd advise put a piece of rock under the clam if you are to place it on sand to protect the clam from parasidic predators penetrate through the byssal glands.

Thanks and I have 220 of PC lighting and I moved him know he is about 6 inches from the lights he seems happy so we'll just wait and see
